Don’t Be Afraid

,

You have nothing to fear from me.
You have nothing to fear from me. Not from my heart: it is yours for
for the claiming, and it derives its existence from the scarcity of, and
hence the demand for, things that are pure and passionately fight
for their unchanging amidst the pressures of age. My heart still has
many of its original parts, and though they have been lost before, it
has recovered many of its original dreams.
has recovered many of its original dreams. Maybe you’ve been wrong
for trusting your own heart before, but take solace in the thought
that the more times it fooled you for seeing only what it wanted to
see, the more you can understand it, the narrower you can sieve its
reasons, and the clearer you can read its intentions, until finally it
can’t fool you anymore.
can’t fool you anymore. Maybe it’s been a while since you last hushed
all the other parts and listened. There is no reason to be afraid of the
things you’ve already proven are survivable, all those roads that led
you here.
you here. Here, in front of me, we can populate the empty spaces
where the unknown used to be, with promises that won’t rest until
they are kept, and expectations that know how to assert themselves
into the tedium of our days, and reasons for more promises and more
expectations that will only go away once they are fulfilled.
expectations that will only go away once they are fulfilled. Close your
eyes, and will it that your fears don’t follow you in that private place.
Close your eyes and when you escape the world for the moment take
me with you.
me with you. When you build a barricade around yourself to shut out
those things that keep you up at night, those things that make you
look over your shoulder, those things that ever made you feel less the
man I know you are, don’t forget to make the wall low enough for me
to climb so I can bring you some toast and fluffy scrambled eggs in the
mornings and a warm sweater in the winter, and some wild blue irises
in the spring. And I will remind you why they are outside.
in the spring. And I will remind you why they are outside. Right here,
the safe confines of my love have vast enough peace and blessings for
you and me to travel together as far as we wish without having to step
outside of it.
outside of it. And you don’t have to spend another minute in fear, only
in freedom.
in freedom. Let that paint a picture with as many colors as you’ve
ever heard of and wished to see, paint it as big as it requires so that it
reaches the farthest edges of your vision and dominates the whole
canvas, even if it means you have to paint over the images that had
been there before. Paint it until it defines you.
been there before. Paint it until it defines you. Then open your eyes
and find me here.
and find me here. Loving you.
